Bank Gaborone Imparts Financial Literacy For Children

The bank selected the participants from their database of Wiz Account holders, previous participants on the Gabz FM Little Einstein’s segment and students from private and government schools aged 11-13.

The events of the day started with the financial literacy conference on Saturday morning at the bank’s headquarters.

The children were taught about banking services and products ranging from deposits, different types of loans, how banks make their money and more.

The bright minds threw intelligent questions at their facilitators demonstrating that they were indeed attentive.

The bright minds then went on to Riverwalk Mall for their quiz where Omaatla Semele won the grand finale of the Wiz Quiz and walked away with P3,000. Mungaifah Tajbah walked away with P2,000 for second prize while Tefo Pogiso pocketed P1,000 for being third.

According to Bank Gaborone Digital Platforms administrator, Tshepiso Khan, Bank Gaborone is committed to giving back to the community.

She said through their Corporate Social Responsibility programme they address a number of areas of need including health, education and sports.

“In the education space, we believe that equipping Batswana with financial knowledge will empower them to make better financial decisions, which will in turn enhance their well-being. We have implemented a number of financial literacy drives including weekly SID comic strips and financial literacy sketches at local schools. We strongly believe that financial knowledge should be established at a tender age evidenced by our weekly Little Einstein’s segment on Gabz FM with Gabriel sponsored (by) the Bank Gaborone Wiz Account,” she said.

Khan said as this was the first event we are starting off in Gaborone.  She, however, said they intend to expand the financial literacy programme across Botswana.
