Four Appear For Gang Rape, Robbery

Kebaabetswe Galeboloke, 29, Tsaone Moseki, 24, Ontifile Magothwa, 24, and Kethusegile Mmolai, 25, all unemployed and of Lotsane ward in Palapye are charged along with four others who did not appear as they are still on the run.

On the first and second charge respectively, the accused on January 31, 2018 allegedly acting jointly and in concert gang raped two women in separate incidents at or near Extension 2 in Palapye.

On the third charge the quartet, alongside others on the run, are accused of a spate of robberies in the same neighbourhood and on the same day.

The four were arrested on Valentine’s Day and one cellphone allegedly belonging to one of their victims was recovered from them.

According to the investigating officer, detective Sergeant Keotserekae Robert, it has emerged from the investigations that the eight were linked to a series of more robberies in the area that occurred around the same period in a space of two weeks.

He said they have also figured out that in some of the robberies, a firearm was used. Robert said they have recovered a cartridge of the firearm, but they are still searching for the weapon.

He said it appeared the accused also targeted foreign nationals; Indian and Chinese in particular. He therefore prayed to the court to remand the four accused in custody as investigations were still at preliminary stages.

“We still have a task to recover the firearm and to find the others that are on the run and I apply that the four accused be remanded in custody as our investigations continue,” he said.

As Motsamai accepted the application, the four are to appear in the same court on February 28.
