Crows pullers: Zebras have always enjoyed a huge turnout of supporters at Francistown Sports Complex

The Zebras were in a weeklong preparatory camp in the North African nation where they also played a friendly game with the Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday and lost 2-0.

Zebras are preparing for their first game of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mauritania that will be played on Saturday afternoon.

The secretary for the Francistown Zebras Supporters Committee, Nyaladzi Nkungwa said the mood is building up well in the city and preparations are in place for the supporters to welcome the team at the airport.

“The mood is normal in Francistown and the greater Francistown,” she said.

“We will be meeting our team when they touch down from Morocco. As for the game, we believe the stadium will be packed as usual. We are excited that the Zebras are coming back after a long time.

“The supporters committee is meeting and we will have the feedback from the entire region and we will make arrangements for the D-Day, but Francistown will never disappoint.”

She said the only hiccup that is beyond the supporters committee is the shortage of tickets sale points in the region. She said the tickets here are only sold at Shoprite.

Meanwhile, Botswana Football Association spokesperson Tumo Mpatane said the tickets sales have steadily risen.

He said based on the their study on the patterns of tickets sales from the previous games and the euphoria that is building up this week, they expect tickets sales to hit a 10,000 mark by the end of business today and hit high numbers on Thursday and Friday.

“With the frenzy that has built up for this game, this week I am very positive the sales will sky rocket tomorrow and on Friday,” he said. “The sales have grown remarkably and we know that on Friday and Saturday morning there will be high numbers of purchases but we advise that people should buy tickets as early as possible to avoid last minute struggles.”

The local organising committee vice chairman, Maokaneng Bontshetse said they have finalised the arrangements on their part and they are ready for the game.
