Chinese Embassy donates to Solomon Dihutso Primary School

Speaking at the handing over ceremony last Friday, Ambassador Dr Zhao Yanbo said  the  Embassy has since surpassed P500,000 in donations to Solomon Dihutso school since 2013.

He said the donation is a vivid demonstration of fruitful cooperation in education between China and Botswana.

He said, ever since the partnership with the school was conceived, they have donated various equipment and the upgrading of teaching facilities, some which would cater for the special unit for handicapped pupils.

“My country continues to recognise and offer support to Botswana Government by filling gaps where possible in the education sector,” said Yanbo.  He also said while they are willing to assist the school further to meet its needs, it is essential that students also instill discipline and positive attitude amongst themselves towards improved results.

Zhao who was accompanied by his wife, Mao Xuehong, was impressed with the school performance and assured the school that, with the support of his wife, they will revisit and commit more resources to the school in the future.

He further shared that China is willing to donate to two more schools, one in Mmopane and the other in Kazungula. He said the construction of the two schools will be starting soon.

Zhao also revealed that China has provided a total number of about 1,000 government scholarships to Botswana students. He said upon the request from Botswana Government, China has also donated and built two schools in Serowe and Maun.

“It is imperative to make joint efforts with Botswana to contribute to the education and child development, so as to elevate our bilateral relations to a higher ground, “Yanbo stressed.

China and Botswana have long traditional friendly relationship which they have witnessed sound and stable development of cordial relation and ever-growing cooperation in various fields since 1980.

The donation ceremony at Solomon Dihutso was twinned with International Children’s Day hosted by school and among the dignitaries present was the Chinese Embassy, Director in the Political section, Tang Xhenping.
