Trying their luck: Some Eritrean players are training with TAFIC as they seek to re- launch their football careers

The players are based at the Dukwi refugee camp and are trying their luck with the BTC Premiership returnees.

TAFIC spokesperson, Warrant Kolola said the trio were travelling back and fourth from Dukwi to Francistown and have been advised to wait for the first team to report back for training.

“They have shown good technical skills in training, but the problem is we cannot have them come here and return to Dukwi everyday and we have arranged with them to wait until the first team returns,” Kolola said. “In the meantime, we are making arrangements to see how we can have them here while we assess them and also enquire of what needs to be done in case we are interested in signing them,” he said.

Meanwhile, TAFIC have denied reports that their technical manager, Carlos Motaung is on his way out. Motaung was instrumental in the rise of Matjimenyenga in the past season, as he is credited with attracting sponsors to the revitalised Premiership side.

Kolola refuted reports that the technical manager is on the verge of leaving the club and said Motaung was even on duty during the ongoing trials on Friday and nothing was amiss.

He said Motaung is still active in the executive committee’s social network platforms where they discuss internal matters and he has not shown signs that he wants to leave.

He said they hold the technical manager in high regard as part of their executive committee especially that they will be going into the elective annual general meeting (AGM) and they have been bothered by the reports.

Kolola said they have requested to meet with the technical manager to clear the air. “We are at a critical time as the executive committee and the club as a whole especially heading into the AGM and we must be at the same level.

“Although we don’t see any pointers that the technical manager is not happy, we have acted on the basis of those reports and we have a meeting with him so we clear the air,” he said.

Efforts to reach Motaung for comment were not fruitful as his phone rang unanswered.
