Despite the union’s popularity, the event did not attract many people, as most tables were unoccupied. However, the performance of the choirs was good.

The CD launch was held at the Limkokwing University hall of fame on Saturday night.

The nine-track CD, containing traditional songs that are normally sung at the union’s congress and annual conference, was recorded last year at Storms Studios.

The songs include BOPEU Song (acappela), Meketeng Ya BOPEU, Re Dibini, Ditirelo tsa BOPEU, A re Tshwaraganeng, Monhadi, Re Dibini (Acappela traditional composition) BOPEU song (with instruments) and BOPEU which was composed by Joel Dipatane as a bonus track.

The CD launch saw the BOPEU Choir serenade attendees with their live band alongside, KTM Choir, Ngwao Setso Cultural Troupe and Gaborone Youth Singers.

The concert brought back old memories to the audience as KTM Choir sang some of its old songs, which most people are familiar with.

As for BOPEU Choir, it was their title track Meketeng Ya BOPEU, which the audience seemed to love most, dancing and singing along.

Golekamang Mokgatitswe composed the song. According union president Masego Mogwera, the BOPEU choir was formed in 2011 during mass industrial strike.

She said most of the songs in the album are traditional union songs performed during union congresses.

During the event, the president of Botswana Music Union, Pagson Ntsie challenged BOPEU Choir to enter the BOMU awards this year.
