Davids murder accused denied bail

Dube, represented by Sesupo Masaka was this morning denied bail by Molepolole Magistrate’s Court.

When denying him bail, magistrate Lindiwe Makgoro said the accused was in the country illegally.

“On the 22nd [of February 2018] a document was presented by prosecution showing cancellation of the accused’s residence permit meaning he is now here illegally,” she said.

Makgoro explained that the document was from the immigration office and as such the accused was eligible for deportation.

She said for the accused to stand trial he needs to be kept behind bars where he will not be deported back to Zimbabwe.

Dube was the only one remaining behind bars after his co-accused, Ramotswa-born Mokgalemi Maleya was given bail on February 13. On that day he was denied bail on condition that he might skip the country.

Dube, 31 and his co-accused Maleya, 32 are each facing one count of murder.

The state alleges that on January 14, 2018 at Sorilatholo village near Letlhakeng the duo murdered their employer, 68-year-old Davids.

Dube will appear for mention on March 13 while Maleya will mention on April 17, 2018.
