Bus rank �strip� thugs still at large

More than a week after dozens of men, mostly taxi touts, were videotaped joyously taunting a stripping a young woman in an incident that went viral on social media, police are yet to receive viable information on the suspects.
Yesterday, Borakanelo Police confirmed the young woman had come forward and given a statement in the matter. However, nothing further has taken place.
Borakanelo police station commander, superintendent Mothusi Phadi said appeals to public transport operators, street vendors and members of the public to come forward with evidence, had failed thus far. “Despite our pleas for the public’s help, no one has come forth with assistance,” he said.
“We heard reports that recently some people who claimed to have witnessed the incident were interviewed live on Gabz FM and we are planning to seek assistance from the radio station to locate them so that they can help us with that important evidence.”
He stated that their efforts to locate the person who uploaded the video on social media had also failed as the video has since been deleted from Facebook, where it was originally posted.
“We are pleading with that person to come forth and help us to arrest the culprits or anyone who knows that person to contact us so that we can locate him or her for further investigations,” Phadi said.
He said that the video was not clear enough for police to locate the culprits and hence the public’s help was required. “We are working round the clock to arrest the culprits but need more patience as investigations are still on going,” he said.
Meanwhile, Borakanelo police are also investigating a case in which a newborn baby was found abandoned at Gaborone Bus Rank over the weekend.
Phadi said the two-day-old was found by a passer-by abandoned in one of bus stop waiting chairs last Saturday evening.
“A passer by heard the baby crying as it was dark, went to where the voice came from and found the baby crying alone wrapped with blankets. He then informed the police,” Phadi said.
He stated that the baby was certified healthy and fit upon arrival at Princess Marina Hospital where he is under care.
“We are appealing to the general public to help in identifying the child’s mother. We promise the general public that the information will be treated with extra confidentiality,” Phadi said.
Phadi stated that usually when there is a pregnant woman in an area people are aware of her situation and thus he pleaded with people to report to the nearest police any instance where pregnancies disappear without the newborn being spotted.
