BDP Cllrs plotting to oust Ketshogile

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in the sub council want to oust their former colleague but cannot find reasons for a motion of no confidence against the Lerala East civic leader.

The BDP has been holding a caucus after another since yesterday plotting Ketshogile’s downfall but are hitting brick walls. His former colleagues allegedly want him to either rejoin BDP or lose the position.

Last year November Ketshogile decamped to the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD).

An insider said the fact that the matter was not in the agenda and that there is no urgency in it since Ketshogile long left the party complicates matters and brings the caucus to a standoff.

It seems however, the BDP will not throw in the towel just yet and they have engaged professionals to find loopholes to use to oust him.

Ketshogile has confirmed knowledge of the on-goings, saying his former BDP colleagues gave him an ultimatum to either return to the party or lose the position to one of their own.

Ketshogile previously served as the national political officer of the Botswana National Youth Executive Committee of the BDP.

He was amongst the nine members of the youth wing that were suspended prior to the Tonota congress.

He said he resigned from the BDP because he felt justice was not served in the suspension case. He said their troubles started when they openly supported Nonofo Molefhi for the chairmanship.

“Justice was biased and that is how it is at the BDP and that is why I felt I could not carry on with the BDP. They had no grounds of suspending us. We were suspended because we were behind Molefhi for the chairmanship and nothing else,” he said.

He further revealed to Mmegi that “My former comrades want me back at the party and I am aware they want to wrestle my position in the sub council but I will not be intimidated by the BDP”.

Councillor for Morupule, Jordan Makhura said he is aware of the plot the BDP members of the sub council are devising. He said they would fight tooth and nail for Ketshogile if the motion were to be tabled.

“There is nothing they can do. There is no urgency in the matter, it is not in the agenda of the sitting sub council, and they have no powers to remove him. We voted for this man while he was in the BDP, we voted him for his ability and we are still satisfied with him, we will support him,” Makhura said.
