A media launch was held yesterday to mark the return of the Yarona FM Fat Boy Challenge PIC: KAGISO ONKATSWITSE

The programme was launched by the radio station in 2007 as one of its corporate social responsibilities aimed at giving back to the community.

The participants of Fatboy challenge are taken through a rigorous weight loss exercise routine and are expected to share their experiences with listeners as a way of educating the audience about the importance of taking care of one’s health.

During the launch, Yarona FM station manager Kelly Ramputswa said as a station they understand the CSR as a concept where they voluntarily play a role in addressing social concerns by interacting with stakeholders and the issue of living healthier and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

“With this year’s installment, we engaged some of our corporate on air and encouraged them to join the challenge,” she said. Ramputswa said this year the Fatboy Challenge will see a total of 30 participants who have been put in six teams of five.

Ramputswa said the first installment of the challenge was a run in a “pledge to lose” set-up where pledges were made per kilogram lost by participants.

“The money collected after the challenge was donated to underprivileged communities. The challenge in addition shifted the focus in making it a lifestyle event in making people understand the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle,” she highlighted.

Ramputswa added that the challenge support, guidance and weight loss tips will be on hand throughout the three-month period.

“Exceptional trainers and fitness experts will provide the tools and education to translate healthy thoughts into action which participants can take home and make permanent lifestyle changes,” she said.

She concluded that participants could look forward to a fun, energetic, inspiring experience and team camaraderie with humour.

All participants will weigh in on 3rd June 2017 with the training set to kick off on June 5, 2017 and August 31, 2017.
