FCC councillors decry pothole-ridden roads

Commenting on the address by the mayor, councillor Gaone Majere said while the city is in the mood to celebrate 120 years, there is nothing to write home about the city’s internal roads, which are riddled with potholes.
The roads, Majere said, are costing car owners dearly who incur high costs of maintaining their cars, which are damaged by the potholes.
Majere, who characterised the mayor’s speech as shallow, said it is high time the roads are maintained urging the city’s leadership to desist from talking about issues but not implementing them.
Majere’s words were echoed by councillor Sennye Matsoo who said the council should maintain the city’s roads which are in dire need for repair without fail.
“Our cars are damaged by these bad roads which are full of potholes. They should be maintained with immediate effect because they are costing drivers a lot of money,’ said a worried Matsoo.
Councillor Gaethusi Ramolotsana also expressed pain about the state of the city’s roads. He said: “Our internal roads throughout the city are riddled with potholes. Let us patch them in the most cost effective way”.
Councillor for Moselewapula ward, Lechedzani Modenga also encouraged the city’s leadership to implement council resolutions to in a bid to improve on many problems like bad roads, which are giving drivers headaches.
When addressing a full council meeting, Muzila said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development recently requested the council to compile information on roads that were damaged by the heavy rains.
“We as Francistown City have made a submission requesting funds amounting to P90 million to maintain the roads,” she said.
Muzila was optimistic that the council will be given the funds to maintain the roads. She also said the council has been allocated P4.9 million from the fuel levy which will be used to repair some roads in the city.
