In a bid to reassure partners, BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti said the soccer motherbody will tighten its controls to ensure that such incidences are avoided.

He spoke at the unveiling of a P3.8 million sponsorship deal with Choppies meant for youth development.

“We have corporate governance challenges at the association.  There is a deliberate policy to clean the association. Rest assured your money will be put to good use,” Letshwiti said, in a direct address to Choppies director, Ramachandran Ottapathu, who was present at the sponsorship unveiling.

The two BFA employees have since been fired, although BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo could only say they are facing internal disciplinary procedures.

Mfolo said there are internal controls at BFA to curb fraud and corruption, but there was a breach in this instance.

“We have financial control manuals but in this case, the system was manipulated,” he told Mmegi Sport yesterday.

He denied reports that the case against the two accused employees has been withdrawn from the police, but instead, Mfolo said there are two parallel processes underway.

“No it's not like that (that we have withdrawn the case). We are running our own internal disciplinary process, while it is still with the Serious Crime Squad,” he said.
