Forensic report delays murder trial

The Zimbabwean trio of James Ndaba (40), Martin Nkandla (34) and Sam Ncube (39) are accused of robbing and killing Kereeng on October 30, 2016 in Mogoditshane.
When the trio appeared before the Broadhurst Magistrate Wame Mosugelo in February this year, the prosecution told the court that they were waiting for the forensic report before referring the docket to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for assessment to prosecute.
Three months on, the state prosecutor inspector Tsogo Rantopo of Botswana Police Services said that they have not received anything from the forensic laboratory.
“We are here for extension of remand of the accused. We have not received all the forensic affidavit,” he said.
He stated that the investigating officer, detective Inspector Morwamang told him that he has made an appointment with the forensic registry to check the results on May 31, 2017. Furthermore, Ntopo told the court that the accused have been advised to apply for bail at the High Court. The trio has been in prison because they are considered flight risk.
Mosugelo extended the remand warrant of the accused. She ordered the prosecution to update the court on the progress of their investigations in the next mention.
The accused allegedly attacked and killed Kereeng, robbing him of his P450 worth Nokia mobile phone before driving off in his silver Corolla Allex car.
The trio will appear in court on June 12, 2017.
