Bakgatla March Against Murder Cases

The march followed a move by the Bakgatla deputy chief Kgosi Bana Sekai who a few weeks back convened a gathering of churches to pray against killings in Mochudi.
According to founder of newly formed ‘Save Kgatleng Movement’ Mpho Tau, they are concerned especially by murder-suicide cases that he said are on the rise in Kgatleng.
“We recorded 10 of such cases in Kgatleng since December. We then decided to start this movement and the march was our first even of many to come,” he said.
Tau said the march was led by their patron Kgosi Bana Sekai, churches and counselors who taught about emotional intelligence to help people deal with scenarios that could lead to such cases.
Tau said going forward they will as a movement target social ills and educate their communities.
“We aim to amongst other things educate students in schools. We are concerned by the rate of knife fights in schools and we aim to tackle it with the support of Kgosi who is so far forthcoming,” he said.
Mochudi has been experiencing a lot of murder cases lately. In January, a train hit a Mochudi man after he allegedly stabbed his teacher lover to death with a knife.
In a recent incident, Mochudi Police have arrested a man who is suspected to have brutally killed his security guard girlfriend last Monday. The 26-year-old Tumo Moumakwa was arrested at Rabotsiripa lands, outside Mochudi and appeared in court on last Wednesday.
According to the Police, the man who has been charged with murder, slashed his girlfriend’s head and thighs with an axe while she was on night duty at Boseja clinic.
At the time of the incident, the woman was with a 70 year old male guard, who had taken a walk behind the building.
The old man reportedly heard the woman screaming and when he rushed back to inspect he found the boyfriend standing next to her lifeless body.
