Peloewetse to head Region V Games LOC

Peloewetse will lead the committee as Botswana prepares to host the regional games between December 7 and 16.

The games would attract the best Under-20 athletes from the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region V countries.

“The event is designed to give young athletes from these countries International games experience,” Olopeng said.

“In order to successfully host these games, we have invested in infrastructure development, refurbishment and maintenance of

facilities,” he said.

The AUSC Region V Games are held on a rotational basis. The inaugural games were held in Namibia in 2004.

The 2018 edition will feature athletics, basketball, boxing, gymnastics, judo, netball, football, swimming, tennis and volleyball. Speaking during the launch, the LOC chairperson, Peloewetse said his committee would work tirelessly to ensure that the games are a success.

“We cannot do it alone. We need financial support, material support and human resources to do this. Hosting multi-sport games is a major undertaking that involves many facets. We expect cooperation from government ministries at all levels and the private sector,” he said.

Peloewetse said the LOC wants to create a memorable experience for the athletes, officials and spectators. Peloewetse said the committee is left with nine months and they cannot be expected to deliver miracles if they are not given support.
