Sankoyo, Police XI Safe After Draw

The Jungle Kings went into the game against Ngurungu at the Maun Sports Complex aiming to a void a loss to secure their BTC Premiership status. Police XI assumed a pragmatic approach staying in its half throughout the game to thwart all Sankoyo attacks. Police XI coach, Isaiah Mogwadi was happy with the draw.

“We came into this game looking for just a draw. I am happy we got what we wanted,” Mogwadi said.

Stanoljovic on the other hand broke into tears when asked after the match if he will be with the team next season.

“My brother is sick back in my home country. I am going back on Wednesday. I do not know whether I will return to Botswana or not,” the Serbian said.

He thanked the Maun football fraternity for the support during his Sankoyo tenure. His contract came to an end after the last game of the campaign. “It was hard due to the club’s financial woes. However, the fans loved me here, which made up for the lack of money. There is a lot of young football talent in this village,” he said.

The former Mochudi Centre Chiefs coach said with good management and sponsorship Sankoyo should never fight relegation.

Mantswe said the draw was all he wanted. “We have survived. Everyone wanted us out in the name of saving northern teams, but we made it,” he said.

Police XI’s best chance was in the second half when Tapiwa Gadibolae’s neat cross was missed by Otsile Batang from close range.
