Alleged 'Hitman' Tells Court His Confession Was A Lie

A day after the police arrested him on February 19, 2018 at Mmopane village, one of the alleged hitmen, Hamadi Nkhuha, 47, appeared before Broadhurst Magistrates Court where he gave a confession statement. But appearing for mention last Thursday, Nkhuha shocked the court when he blurted out that his confession was a lie.

It was his third court appearance, having first appeared to giving out a confession statement and the second time with one of his co-accused Ernest Legwale, 43, who alleged hired Nkhuha together with the one still on the run to kill his then wife, Dimpho Meswele.

The duo had appeared for arraignment. In the previous mention Nkhuha had told prosecution to take its time to further investigate the matter, but shocked Broadhurst Chief magistrate Faith Ngandu on his third appearance when on being asked if he had anything to say, he told court that his confession was a lie.

“I want to bring to the attention of this court that all I said in my confession statement was a lie. I am pleading with this court not to use that confession as part of the evidence because all that I previously mentioned was false,” Nkhuha said.

The trio of Nkhuha, Legwale and Dzichanaka Davie, who is still on the run, faced with a single count of murder. The trio allegedly killed Thato Meswele 35 back in September 2015 at Oodi village.

Nkhuha had earlier confessed before court that Legwale hired him and Davie to kill his then wife, Dimpho but accidentally ended up killing her young sister, Thato.

Then, Nkhuha narrated events of that fateful night and went to an extent of disclosing how disappointed he was that Legwale denied ever hiring them to kill his ex-wife.On their arraignment, Legwale had told court that he only hired the duo to go and plant a baboon head at his ex-wife’s yard at Oodi on claims that it will fix their love relationship as they were in the process of divorcing.

Nkhuha had confessed that after that, Legwale paid them P15,000 each and gave them a BMW car, dismissing allegations of a baboon.

He had also confessed that Legwale had brought them mobile phones and also gave them a car to use on the premeditated murder operation.

However the chief magistrate could not entertain Nkhuha’s claims suggesting that he should apply to the High Court to change his confession statement.

“I cannot allow accused persons not to take court proceedings seriously therefore I cannot entertain your claims. However, if you are not satisfied with my ruling you can further apply to the High Court. You came here and voluntarily gave confession statement, but today you claim that what you said was a lie, I cannot deal with that here,” warns Ngandu.

The duo was further remanded in custody after being denied bail by court.
