Zoroga closes temporarily due to floods

Letlhakane Senior Secondary School in Boteti also recently re-opened after it was temporarily closed due to floods.
Flooding in Letlhakane, which displaced some families, was also attributed to recent heavy rains experienced in various parts of the country.
The Zoroga school was closed on Monday. Six houses belonging to teachers were also left submerged in water. He said that the school is currently not safe for learners.
“The (six) teachers whose households were affected by floods have been taken to a temporary relief centre within the school. The area is relatively safer,” Michael Chilimba, the deputy district commissioner for the Tutume sub-district, said.
He added that the household stuffs of the six teachers were also taken to an area considered safer so that they do not get damaged by the floods.
Chilimba noted that the flooding situation in Gweta is receding.
“Some of those who were displaced by the floods (in Gweta) two weeks ago have started going back to their homesteads. At the moment I do not have exact figures of those who have since returned to their households,” Chilimba said.
Two weeks ago 169 people from 112 households in Gweta were offered refuge at the village brigade after floods displaced them.
Then people living in 59 households in Zoroga were also evacuated and are currently housed at the village primary school grounds.
Apart from displacing people, the floods in the two areas have damaged some houses and other properties.
Villages in the Nata/Gweta area such as Sepako and Mosetse have been affected by floods, but not in the same magnitude as Gweta and Zoroga villages.
