Young Epilepsy Botswana hosts 4th Purple Walk

The nine-kilometre walk will start from the Grand Palm Hotel to Zambezi Towers in the Central Business District (CBD) and back.

According to YEB public relations personnel, Bame Motsomatshukudu at the 4th Annual Purple Walk press conference held at the Grand Palm Hotel yesterday, the walk would sensitise the public on epilepsy.

She explained that epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders affecting people in Botswana and millions of people worldwide, saying that it was not contagious and is rarely fatal.

She added that epilepsy had many different causes and determining the specific cause for any one person’s epilepsy may be difficult.

“People with epilepsy have the same range of intelligence as the general public. At least one in every 10 people will have one seizure in their lifetime. During the walk, we will be conducting door-to-door campaigns in Gaborone West, Phase two where we will teach the public about epilepsy and how they should help a person living with epilepsy when he or she has a seizure attack,” she said.

The event merchandise would be given to participants free of charge.

Amongst the dignitaries that would partake in the event are the mayor, Kagiso Thutlwe and upcoming first lady, Neo Masisi and others.

Grand Palm Hotel, Zambezi Towers, Duma FM, O3, Corner BW and others, sponsor the event.
