Sources say the proposal for Molapise to meet Boko was agreed at a NEC meeting held over the weekend here.

“Party chairman, Richard Gudu has been given the mandate to arrange the meeting on behalf of the president (Molapise).

The proposal for Molapise to meet Boko will go through the party central committee where we expect it to be approved. The committee will be meeting soon,” a high ranking party insider said yesterday in an interview. The insider added: “The date for the meeting with Boko will be decided at the central committee meeting should it agree that Molapise should meet Boko.”

Yesterday, both Molapise and Gudu referred Mmegi to the party spokesperson Tshepo Makhani. The latter could not confirm or deny if the party has proposed a meeting with Boko.

“Yes,  issues agreed upon at the NEC cannot be implemented without the approval of the central committee. However, what is agreed upon at a NEC meeting is not for public consumption,” Makhani said yesterday when reached for comment. Makhani confirmed that a NEC meeting was held on Saturday in Francistown.

Early this year, the BPP wrote a letter to its UDC partners demanding to be given more constituencies instead of the four it had been allocated.

The UDC partners are the BPP, Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD), Botswana National Front (BNF) and Botswana Congress Party (BCP). The BNF got 22 constituencies, BCP 17 while the BMD will contest the elections in 14 constituencies.

The parties will contest the constituencies with the ruling party at the 2019 general elections.

The partners took time to respond, which prompted a follow-up letter from the BPP  written in March this year, but the BPP is yet to get a response on the petition.

The BPP believes that it is under represented with four constituencies and wants an additional four.

The UDC spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa recently indicated that the UDC executive is yet to meet to discuss the BCP matter.
