Exciting menu at Ghetto All Stars Open Championships

The school’s managing director, Tebogo Gaseitsiwe said the school has been in existence for four years and has since then been participating in national competitions outside the city, hence the reason she decided to host the event she described as the first of its kind. She said that their mandate is to raise awareness, develop dance sport athletes and also getting children off the streets.

She explained that the competitions will help revive the economy of the city following the closure of the mines by promoting sport tourism.

She said clubs from outside would converge in Francistown, something she said will benefit local hotels and lodges as well as other businesses. She further said that they have enjoyed a very positive response from the community as ticket sales are going briskly.

The Francistown School of Dance boss said they are targeting attendance of around 200 people. She said that they intend to grow the competition and make it an annual event, adding that 80% of the sponsorship is from their pocket while they have received donations from Adansonia Hotel, Lastlion Distributors and other companies.

Gaseitsiwe said they are expecting more than five dance groups across the country to grace the event.

She explained that the competition is divided into two categories, the medal section, which comprises mostly of children from five years to 14 years of age, and the open section, which features youths and adults. She noted that the winners would walk away with medals and trophies.

“We have divided the dance categories into two. Under ballroom dance we have quickstep, waltz and tango while in Latin dance we have Rumba, Samba, Paso doble and Cha-cha-cha. We have engaged three adjudicators for the competition, some of which have adjudicated regionally in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Zambia and we have no doubt that they will do a great job on the night,” she said.

She noted that they intend to start the event at 4pm on Saturday, adding that tickets were still available at Clifton School, Curves or they should contact her as she can deliver them anywhere around town in person. Tickets, which include dinner, are sold at P200 for adults and P150 for children while the standard P100 ones exclude dinner.  She also said the dress code for the event is black tie or any formal wear, while for women is eveningwear.
