Reached for a comment, The Botswana Police Service’s spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Witness Bosija told The Monitor that they are investigating the matter but could not reveal much information. “We do not know what exactly happened but investigations on the matter are ongoing.

At this stage I cannot disclose the particulars of the victim, when the incident occurred or say anything further that involves the case to the media yet as we are still conducting investigations which are currently at initial stages,” Bosija said.

Asked why the shooting is usually common amongst prominent people, Bosija countered that it usually affects members of the public in general.

“We plead with anyone knowing what exactly happened to inform the police or to provide us with any information that could help us to arrest the culprit(s),” Bosija said. For his part, Thamane told The Monitor that on Monday evening after knocking off, while driving home, his car was hit by another car at the back in Block 6.

“I parked the car and got out trying to find out what exactly was going on and to talk to the driver of the car that knocked me at the back, but suddenly I was shot and injured on my right arm,” Thamanesaid. Thamane said the injury was not that bad, as it required a minor surgery and he is back at work. “I thought it was just an ordinary accident ,but was surprised when they shot me before I could even say a word to them.

They might have had a motive that I am still not aware of, but that does not scare me because I have not done anything wrong to anyone,” Thamane said.

He said the culprits were two middle-aged men and he also managed to identify their plate number, which he has since shared it with the police.

“I am fine and back to my normal routines. Despite this, I do not fear anything,” Thamane said.

Back in October 2015, another CEO, Mike Montshiwa of Fairground Holdings, was shot and killed in Block 6 at night with the case still ongoing at court.

This has raised people’s eyebrows that the shootings seem to be common amongst prominent people something that the police should consider probing further.
