Tlokweng Suitcase Murder Mystery Remains Unresolved

Asked about the DNA results that were found on the 15 male used condoms that were discovered dumped with July’s body, Tlokweng Police Station commander, superintendent Robson Maleka told The Monitor that they were still awaiting DNA results to confirm whether the DNA on the used condoms belonged to the prime suspect or not.

Ever since the incident, there has been speculation that since 15 male used condoms were recovered, July might have been gang-raped, but police are still not in a position to comment further as they are still waiting for forensic results to match recovered samples with the DNA of Mopati Tebejana, 28.

“We have taken our prime suspect’s remains to cross check with his DNA and see if it matches with the ones on the condoms and we are still waiting for the forensic results.  We want to confirm if DNA on the used condoms belongs to July’s boyfriend, Mopati Tebejana or not.  That is when we can close the case,” Maleka said.

On January 6, 2017 July’s badly decomposed body was discovered wrapped with a blanket in a big bag and dumped in the bush.

It took the police almost two months to identify the prime suspect in the case, her boyfriend (Tebejana) whose remains were found hanging from a tree in the bush at Lephaleng lands on January 14, 2018.

Then, the police discovered some items suspected to be belonging to July’s boyfriend at the scene (his Omang and cellphone). Even though he did not leave a note to what forced him to commit suicide, the police suspect that he killed July and committed suicide.

July was discovered with her cellphone, wedding ring, spectacles, toiletry bag, ATM cards, Identity card, her underwear and some of her clothes that were blood-soaked.
