During the 2016/17 financial year, BNOC received P6.5 million and in 2017/18 the Committee got the same amount, but this time, P500, 000 will go towards anti-doping activities.

BNOC chief executive officer, Tuelo Serufho speaking on behalf of BNOC president, Negroes Kgosietsile at the local Olympic body’s ordinary general meeting on Saturday, said they are only aware of the figure for operations costs. He said for the last two financial years, they did not receive funding towards anti-doping.

“The ministry is yet to announce the funding for games occurring this financial year or early in the 2018/19 financial year. You are aware that the Commonwealth Youth Games are taking place in July in Bahamas and the main Commonwealth Games in April in Australia,” he said.

Serufho stressed that the delay in both announcing the grant amount as well as the credit of same is affecting their preparations for the games and general operations.

Meanwhile, Kgosietsile has been elected as president of the Confederation of Southern African National Olympic Committees (COSANOC) for a four (4) year term until 2021.

His election automatically makes him one of the regional vice presidents at the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), representing Region VI, otherwise known as COSANOC. On the other hand, Serufho has been elected as COSANOC secretary general for the same period. He announced that the COSANOC office will be relocating to Botswana.

“We are of the view that its proximity to other regional structures such as the African Union Sports Council Region V, the Africa Regional VI RADO and the Commonwealth Regional Office should make it possible for better programme coordination and sharing of resources,” Serufho said.

Botswana Football Association president, Mclean Letshwiti said the appointment of Kgosietsile and Serufho was an indication that the sports leadership in Botswana is recognised worldwide.
