Tussle over softball SG's post as elections loom

Gaosikelwe was suspended last September over allegations she had failed to follow procurement procedures when she bought jackets worth P32,000, and that she had failed to pay BSA subscription fees to the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).

 Gaosikelwe was also accused of failing to submit action items from the July 2017 general meeting held in Palapye, to allow for the relevant officers to do their job.

Nozie Payet has been the acting secretary general since the suspension. However, on Monday, Payet resigned to focus on her duty as manager of the national team. But Payet is interested in contesting for the position when BSA holds elections in Palapye next month.

BSA vice president (VP), Katlholo Mosimanegape said charges have been dropped against Gaosikelwe after a disciplinary hearing.

“The National Executive Committee (NEC) had proposed to the DC that they should drop charges against Gaosikelwe. The DC was also advised to speed up the process to enable the SG to retain her position,” he said.

Mosimanegape said Gaosikelwe has been informed of the decision, but the VP has been accused of procrastinating as he allegedly supports Payet’s candidature in next month’s elections.

“I might be in the same campaign team with Payet, but I have not done anything to delay the process. I have been pushing the DC to give Gaosikelwe her position,” he told Mmegi Sport. 

Gaosikelwe said she feels sabotaged and that she is still interested in retaining her position at the election. 

“I have not received any communication from anybody regarding the matter. Charges were dropped against me during the first appearance, but now I do not know what is causing the delays,” she said.

Payet confirmed that she wants to contest for the secretary general’s position.

“I have interest in challenging for the position of SG. But to say that some people are delaying to reinstate Gaosikelwe because of me is putting me in bad light,” she said.

BSA president, Tirelo Mukokomani said a decision was made, based on his recommendation, to the executive committee. “The same decision was communicated back to the DC. We were scheduled to meet last Saturday.  We expect the DC chairperson, Thari Mooketsi to give us feedback soon,” Mukokomani said.

Mukokomani said he was unable to provide further information on a matter that is before the DC. “Let me respect them enough and allow them to conclude their work,” Mukokomani said.
