Zebras date regular sparring partners, Lesotho

The match will be used to bid outgoing President, Ian Khama, whose 10-year reign ends on March 31, 2018.  Khama is a passionate football fan and a Botswana Football Association (BFA) patron.

The BFA has consistently managed to arrange friendly matches for Zebras coach, David Bright, a rare change, after his predecessor, Peter Butler once went for six months without action.

Bright has called up a strong squad, which includes South Africa-based players, Kabelo Dambe, Mogakolodi Ngele and Mpho Kgaswane.

The Zebras regularly kick Lesotho and would be expected to register another routine victory at the National Stadium, scene of last weekend’s historic moment for Township Rollers and the nation.

However, the crowd is not expected to get close to the 18,700 which packed the stadium to witness Rollers become the first Botswana side to progress to the CAF Champions League group stages.

The Zebras’ next competitive match is a long way off, with the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers moved to September to allow African countries that have qualified for the World Cup, adequate time to prepare. 

The World Cup starts in over two months in Russia, with Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal and Tunisia set to represent the continent.
