Quad Biker Lekone Laid To Rest

Various speakers at the funeral described Lekone as a selfless, dedicated person and a socialite with a great sense of humour. The director of Botswana National Archives, Peter Choto whom Lekone worked under for the past six years as a records manager described ‘Tsuu’, as he was affectionately called, a team leader and a go-getter who was not afraid of any challenges. “He is the one who represented the department in most social events. He organised most of the sport events and other community service projects. We immensely relied on him in those kinds of projects,” Choto said.
A representative from the Botswana Motor Sports (BMS), Tshepo Mbakile said Lekone’s success in the game was mainly due to the dedication he had for the sports and said it summed up the type of person he was.
He said Lekone had a “go get it” attitude, coupled with kindness and humility and was able to become the successful rider he was.
Lekone’s longtime friend, Junior Selokolwane shared a lighter side of Tsuu whom he said they overcame a lot of obstacles in their close to a decade friendship. “One time I had to act like I was visually impaired so that we would avoid the long queue to get our passports. Due to his character, Lekone executed his role well that we were assisted on time with no fuss,” Selokolwane said sending the mourners into laughter.
Tsuu was born in Metsimotlhabe and did his primary school education at Thebe Primary. He completed his Junior Secondary education at Maikano and Bokamoso schools before proceeding to George Silundika School Zimbabwe where he attended his senior secondary education. He holds a Bachelors of Library and Information Services degree from the University of Botswana. He was left with one module to complete his masters in Archives and Records Management.
Lekone competed in the local and international off-road events including the annual Toyota 1000km Dessert Race and the Khawa Dune Challenge.
He finished fourth at the 2016 South African National Championships which remains his best finish. He was also an enthusiastic football player as he was a member of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development football team.
Lekone is survived by his mother, four siblings, a companion and two children.
