Gunners Lament Distant Relations With BFA

The club’s general manager, Ian Kebopetswe said during the Open Day held at SSKB Stadium on Saturday, that although the clubs affiliate with the BFA, it appears like there is no tangible relationship between the clubs and the mother body.
He said some of the guidance from the BFA does not reach the clubs who in most cases get information through newspapers and other media.
Kebopetswe said they are also concerned about the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) regarding the state of the facilities.
He said although the clubs pay 25% of their proceedings at the gates after matches, they do not get their money’s worth.
He said while the playing grounds are usually in perfect condition; the stands are usually in bad condition as the seats in most cases are found dirty. He asked his committee to carry the concerns forward and ensure that the relations between the club and the mother bodies are intact.
Kebopetswe revealed that Gunners have since forged relations with the Lobatse Town Council regarding the old Stadium.
He said the Town Council has acceded to their request to use the stadium for 10 years without paying anything.
“We just have to meet them and sign the deal. The Lobatse Town Council has agreed to lease the stadium to us for 10 years and the deal with see us use the stadium for free,” he said.
Kebopetswe also updated the supporters on the current state of the club.
He said it has not been an easy process to try and transform Gunners into an entity that can sustain itself. “Our strength as a club is that we have many followers and we have an untapped commercial value. If we set our structure well, we can be able to sustain ourselves,” he said.
He said their main weaknesses at the moment is that they do not have adequate resources in terms of capital.
He said there have been problems in terms of accountability at the club with the previous committees.
He said there has been no record of how much money was getting into the club and how it was used.
He however said they are currently putting measures in place to control the situation.
