Rollers opened a two point gap at the top on Tuesday night

Rollers were in mean mood after an early scare and smashed six goals against Green Lovers while Galaxy failed to break down Orapa United at Itekeng Stadium.

Green Lovers, already relegated to the lower division scored two quick goals in the first 10 minutes to send Rollers supporters into a panic mode. The Serowe -based side however allowed Rollers to pull one back through defender, Simisane Mathumo.

Joel Mogorosi then equalised at the stroke of halftime before Rollers went on to score four more goals in the second half. Tshepo Motlhabankwe, Lemponye Tshireletso, Terrence Mandaza and Segolame Boy each scored while Lungisani Fanyana and Tinashe Chipunza were on target for Green Lovers. Rollers have now amassed 60 points with two unpredictable matches remaining.

Galaxy on the other hand dropped two points against Orapa United. Without Thabang Sesinyi who was serving a one-match suspension, they failed to break a resolute Orapa United defence. The hosts themselves were looking for maximum points to remain in the title hunt.

However, it was not to be. Sesinyi was a thorn in Orapa defence during the Mascom Top 8 final and his presence was missed on Tuesday. Galaxy will now have to win their next match against Gaborone United (GU) and hope that Rollers drop points against a tricky Black Forest side. They also have to avoid finishing level on points with Rollers at the end of the season because of their inferior goal difference.

Rollers hold an 11-goal advantage heading into the weekend games. With Orapa United now out of the contest following their draw with Galaxy, the race for the title is down to two horses. Orapa are third with 51 points. They can only reach a maximum of 57 points if they are to win their two remaining games against Mochudi Centre Chiefs and GU.

Sankoyo Bush Bucks’ relegation fight suffered a dent when they lost 1-0 to BDF XI on Tuesday afternoon. Having managed to hold on for longer periods, Sankoyo allowed Keeagile Kobe to score in the last four minutes of the game. However, they still managed to hold onto position 10 with 32 points from 28 games.

They still have to play other relegation candidates, Nico United and Police XI. Nico were scheduled to play Gilport Lions yesterday.

Meanwhile Rollers striker, Mandaza remains top of the leading goal scoring charts after his goal against Green Lovers. The Zimbabwean marksman has now scored 16 goals. Thero Setsile could not increase his tally on Wednesday when his side, Galaxy drew 0-0 with Orapa United.

He is at 14 goals together with GU’s Tumisang Orebonye. Chipunza, who has been banging goals despite Green Lovers relegating, is now at 13 goals while Tshireletso, Tendai Nyamadzawo and Sesinyi have each scored 12 goals.
