BMD asks UDC to de-recognise Gaolathe & Co

Besides Gaolathe, other suspended members are former BMD youth president Phenyo Segokgo, vice president Wynter Mmolotsi, national organising secretary Kabelo Mahupe, Pako Keokilwe, chairperson of the council of elders and Harriet Rampa, secretary of council of elders.

According to the letter seen by Mmegi, BMD chairperson, Nehemiah Modubule told the UDC that the seven had been suspended for 90 days.  “It saddens us that our movement has been placed in the inescapable position of having, which it has done, to suspend the following of its members for 90 days pending the taking and completion of disciplinary action against them.

“The suspensions entail, inter alia, that the said individuals are not permitted to participate in any activities of the movement of whatever nature, official and unofficial, may not represent the movement in any activity, engagement, event or occurrence at any place, nor may they undertake anything in the name of the movement nor use its name in anything they might do or be present in its doing or participate in any such thing in the name of the movement, nor may they represent the movement at any forum.”

The former Lobatse legislator requested that all communications and invitations of concern to or affecting the BMD, including concerning meeting of the UDC or any structures at all levels, be directed to secretary general Gilbert Mangole.

Modubule’s letter to the UDC appears to contain a veiled warning to the UDC not to interfere in the BMD’s internal squabbles.

“As you know, our movement has for some time now, been going through a harrowing time and non-interference in our internal attempts at resolving our problems would make what is a difficult task easier.

“We assure you that we are determined, as best we can, to bring peace, quiet and stability to our movement once and for all and we shall, upon the suspensions being lifted, or other developments occurring, inform you accordingly.  Please await our further communications as the need arises.”

Other UDC members include the Botswana People’s Party, Botswana National Front and the Botswana Congress Party.
