Areas S girl who beheaded neighbour face committal

The gruesome murder took place last year in January at the quiet neighbourhood of Area S.

The accused, who cannot be named for ethical reasons, was supposed to appear before Magistrate Lebogang Kebeetsweng yesterday (Monday) but failed to appear in court for reasons unknown to the prosecution.

State prosecutor Moatlhodi Macheng was reluctant to apply for a warrant of arrest for the accused saying that he would liaise with the accused and her guardians to make sure that she appears in court as scheduled.

Investigations into the case are complete and the accused will appear in court on April 18 for committal to the High Court.

The grisly murder of the three-year-old boy shocked residents of Area S and the entire country.

The deceased’s aunt told Mmegionline that in her view, her neighbour was probably influenced by Satanism to kill the young boy who was her best friend despite their huge age difference.

The then form Four student allegedly used an axe to decapitate the head of her neighbour who was sleeping when the incident happened.

At the time of the incident, a neighbour to both the accused and deceased told Mmegionline that she took the sleeping boy from the living room to her bedroom where she ultimately killed him.

The neighbour said: “The alleged perpetrator’s father at first thought that his child was holding the head of a doll but was surprised when he saw the head bleeding. He later discovered that the head that her daughter was holding aloft was that of their three-year-old neighbour.”

The accused, the neighbour added, was holding the head high like a trophy.

After the harrowing incident, the accused spent a great deal of time at Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital for mental assessment.
