Anglican utilises President Khamas token

The groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by Bishop of Botswana Dioceses, The Right Reverend Metlhayotlhe Beleme on Sunday.

In his remarks, Bishop Beleme commended President Khama for his continued kind gestures to assist charitable organisations and the underprivileged communities.

He urged diocesans to develop the same spirit by contributing to the growth and sustainability of the church.

“The President is not only helping the church because he is Anglican but because he believes in the spiritual growth and peace within mankind, hence his contribution to help grow the church,” Beleme said.

He added that Khama’s donation helps to underscore the significant church’s aim to effectively implement its strategic plan, that seeks to attract more members and improve the welfare of the clergy.

The groundbreaking ceremony had earlier been preceded by the church’s 18th session of the Diocesan Synod held over the weekend.

The Diocesan Synod is the supreme policy making body of the church, with a mandate to oversee the fulfilment of the dioceses strategic plan indicators.

The road to Sunday’s groundbreaking ceremony was paved with prayerful meetings and reports from all Anglican parishes from across the country.

Among some the church’s major achievements is the reviewed Diocesan Strategic Plan.

“These core values are an invitation to all of us to become a missioned church, not focused upon maintaining what we have but reacting out creatively to the world around us” Bishop Beleme shared.

The next stage of major developments earmarked at the Anglican Church is the construction of the vestry. It was also reported to the Synod that the efforts are being made to upscale the level quality assurance of the St Augustine Theological School.

Members commended the Canon James Amanze for his reliance, with the support of Dean Celestino Chishimba against all odds.
