Capital Motors sponsors the tournament for P150,000 with the winners in both the men and women’s sections walking away with P15,000.

Runners-up get P10,000 while third-placed teams pocket P7,500. Teams that finish fourth get P6, 000. The games kick off this weekend in Molepolole and Lobatse.

Speaking at the draw held yesterday, Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) president, Daniel Molaodi said there has been a decline in the amount of sponsorship. He explained that the amount is decided by the sponsor. The tournament was previously sponsored to the tune of P350, 000 for a period of two seasons in 2014 and 2015. Each season was allocated P175, 000. Molaodi said the sponsor decided to reduce the amount and the federation appreciates what it receives.

“The first weekend is a knockout stage, being the qualification for the top eight out of which the top four will emerge the following day (Sunday). There is a consolation for teams that finish in positions five to the bottom on both the men and the women of P5, 000,” he said.

Molaodi said the competition is open to all BVF affiliates including new entrants, Yaros Olympic Club from Maun. He further added that normally the winners of the Capital Motors competition qualify for the Zone VI Championship, but this time around, it will be used as part of the qualifiers.

He said they expect to have other tournaments during the course of the year.  Meanwhile, the last winners of the Capital Motors tournament, Kutlwano representative, Shadrack Kapeko said he was excited about the draw. He said both men and women are ready for the weekend competition.

He said they have kept the same players from last year despite a few movements in the women’s team. He said the women’s team captain, Tebogo Sejewe is now based in South Africa. “We are looking forward to including a few youngsters in the men’s starting line-up. We also had a few players who resigned from Kutlwano joining other teams,” he said.

While runners-up, Police VI coach, Shimaka Ngwanaotsile told Mmegi Sport that all the teams have prepared well for the tournament. He said he does not expect easy matches. Ngwanaotsile said they expect to bring some new signings for the Saturday action and expect the transfers to be completed by Friday.
