Its all I write

Some writing markets

1. One Story: One Story is a good paying but very competitive market for short stories.

Their submission periods are from January 15 - May 31 and again from September 1 - November 14. They want literary fiction between 3,000- 8,000 words. One Story pays $500 and 25 contributor copies for First Serial North American rights.

All rights will revert to the author following publication.  They accept only previously unpublished stories though they can consider a story that has been published in print only in another country not the USA.

You can submit online only through their automated system which can be found on their comprehensive submission guidelines page here: https://www.one-story.com/index.php?page=submit.

2. Pseudopod: They’re an online audio magazine. They’re looking for quality dark fiction across all genres including mystery, horror, magic realism, crime drama, and supernatural dark fantasy. They have two sections: flash fiction for stories under 1,500 words and short fiction which is between 1,500 and 6,000 words.

Their favourite is 4,500 words because it translates to thirty minutes for an audio.

They pay $.06/word for original fiction, $100 flat rate for short story reprints, and $20 flat rate for flash fiction reprints (stories below 1,500 words). Regarding reprints, on their website they say: “We do not discriminate between previously published and unpublished works.

We’re an audio market, and we buy nonexclusive rights, so it doesn’t hurt us if a story has previously appeared in another market.”

This is great if you have a story that’s already been published; now you can send it out to earn some money for you again.

You can submit your story online through their submissions page where you can also find more complete guidelines (http://pseudopod.org/submissions/).

3. Guyvorce: This is a magazine to help men get through divorce.

They’re looking for articles. According to their website: “Guyvorce publishes divorce advice for men, with topics ranging from saving your marriage to dating after divorce and everything in between.  Our writers identify a divorce-related problem or issue and give our guys the information needed to handle it.”

They’re looking for articles from 1,200 words and pay $100USD per articles. They pay through PayPal a couple days after publication. You submit through their website which you can find here: https://guyvorce.com/write-for-us/

4. Three Penny Review: Three Penny Review is a prestigious literary magazine accepting literary fiction and poetry.

You can submit by post or through their online submissions page, where you can also find detailed submission guidelines (http://www.threepennyreview.com/submissions.html) .

They pay $400 USD for each short story and $200USD for each poem that they accept. Short stories should be 4000 words and less and poems 100 lines or less.

They strictly do NOT accept previously published items or simultaneous submissions. They try to make decisions on submitted work in two days to two months. Submissions are not accepted from July to December.

5. Mask Magazine: According to their website: Mask is a monthly online “repository of youth and internet culture packed with interviews, editorials, news, and style in the age of unrest.”

Editors look for ‘expressive, evocative prose’, personal essays, documentation of a singular event, studies of movements or phenomena from history, how-to guides or tutorials.”

They’re currently looking for articles for their May issue which is themed: “The shitshow issue”, the deadline is April 8 and more detailed information about the issue and guidelines can be found here: http://www.maskmagazine.com/docs/writers.

They accept completed articles and memoir pieces as well as pitches for articles you’d like to write that might be perfect for them.  Their submissions page is very comprehensive so give it a thorough read before submitting.  Have no fear of rejection, that’s the only way to succeed. Good luck!
