Controversial South Africa-based Bushiri needs to apply for a visa before entering Botswana, after he was put on Visa restrictions by the Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Edwin Batshu on April 26, 2017.

The department’s Chief Public Relations Officer Hannah Ramorogo told Mmegi in an interview that their Visa Division has not received an application from the televangelist.

“The Visa Division where applications are received and processed is not aware of the application having come through. I will confirm with the Director but for now they have not received any application from Bushiri,” she said.

Bushiri commands a strong following in Botswana, with multitudes attending his services and crusades in South Africa. He is the leader of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) in Pretoria, South Africa.

Malawians like South Africans, do not require visa to enter Botswana, but Bushiri is not the first one to be put under visa restrictions after Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema was also placed on visa list a few years ago.

Mmegi was not able to get confirmation from the church if an application has been forwarded to the authorities.
