Mogale pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing by servant last week. At his re- arraignment before Village Magistrate Mompati Taolo, during which he is accused of stealing the sum of P1.9 million on May 11, 2012 at Diamond Technology Park in Gaborone, from Brinks Global Services, his employer at the time. Mogale was employed as a senior crewman.

During presentation of facts of case on Friday, Mogale admitted that he and his colleagues went to collect consignments containing the monies from Bank of Botswana to take it for shipping at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport.

It is said that at the airport, Mogale and company offloaded imports, while also loading the outgoing consignments. Mogale would later that day be questioned after the consignment did not arrive in Johannesburg. It is said when he got back to work he volunteered to load rubbish bins and went to dump them, something which was not his usual duty.

The court heard that it was after police interviewed him that he led them to one Khumo Monyena who kept the money for Mogale. The bulk of the money being P1,277 243.50 was recovered.

Mogale admitted to the facts read in court and told the court he had mistakenly taken the money and was tempted by the devil to take it. “I took back the bag with the money back to work by mistake. When I realised that I had taken the monies I couldn’t act as I was overwhelmed. I could not think straight and the devil tempted me to keep the money,” he said.

Public Prosecutor Ernest Mosate pleaded with the court to set a new date before Mogale could mitigate so they be allowed to do fingerprints checks.
