The donation was intended to help those who have problems with their sight and cannot afford to procure spectacles.

During her remarks, the Minister of Health and Wellness (MHW) Dorcas Makgato said this was a very important gesture to her Ministry by Kabelo Rampe who owns the foundation.

She said the MHW tries by all means to bring in more resources and meet as many health needs as possible. She added that they cannot alone attain every goal of the Ministry.

“Therefore it is an honour to have people of Rampe’s calibre who are selfless and committed to helping the Government in caring for its people including his spirit of volunteerism and so much love for the people. We are indeed blessed as the ministry and we highly recognise and appreciate Mr Rampe,” said the jubilant minister.

She added that sight is the most important body sense and without it the body is unable to function well therefore with such donations lives are being saved and hope is being restored among those who have lost hope of being normal again.

She also said that one of the challenges they are facing in the Ministry is shortage of resources in the eye department and the donation has indeed proven that there is also hope for them.

Makgato also stated that it was very pleasing that the donation also goes to school pupils who often suffer academically due to their sight.

“And most of the times as parents and teachers we hasten to scold the children whenever they fail.  We never introspect the main reason behind, which at time is caused by sight problems. Therefore I am very happy that the students today are also being assisted,” she said.

The former Minister of Defence and Security, Ramadeluka Seretse shared the same sentiments as Makgato, stating that Rampe is a selfless man. He said at this time and age it was rare to find a person of Rampe’s calibre because there is no longer love and unity, which used to exist back in years. Seretse said it is people like Rampe that need to be celebrated for giving other people hope and maintaining their dignity.

For his part, Rampe said his upbringing influenced his spirit of giving back and volunteerism, mentioning that he grew up as an orphan.

He also thanked his sponsors who include the owner of Vision Optical Centre Ismael Saloojee who popped up P200,000 for the spectacles, Dr Kgosiemang Seboko of Optifocus who does eye testing on beneficiaries for free, Spar and Motovac amongst others.
