Magano was speaking recently in an interview in Francistown where Chobe Marina Hotel, in partnership with Masa Square Hotel, was on a mission to engage with clients and key stakeholders.

The engagement session was meant to help Chobe Marina and Masa Square Hotel solicit ideas that can help them uplift the local hospitality industry.

According to him, since the inception of the programme in 2008, they have employed 35 youth, who make up 50% of their workforce.

“We hired the youth who demonstrated potential in various departments they were seconded in. We will continue to employ more under the initiative,” he said.

The hotel, as part of its corporate social responsibility programme established a hospitality training programme in collaboration with the BNYC.

Through the programme, Chobe Marina offers training to young people from across the country including both the undergraduates and graduates. The participants are trained in hospitality areas such as housekeeping, reception and maintenance among others.

The participants are seconded to various departments at the hotel for some months.

“The participants are seconded at a given department within our organisation as part of the training based on their behavioural pattern,” he said. Magano indicated that some of the trainees who managed to complete their training were recruited by other organisations within the hospitality industry such as Adansonia, Tati River Lodge, Masa Square and Maun Lodge among others.

“We become excited when our products secure employment in other organisations within the hospitality industry. It shows that we are doing some things in the right manner,” he said.
