Others are admitted in critical condition at the Nyangabgwe Referral hospital’s intensive care unit.

The accident happened along the Kgagodi/Martins Drift road.

The combi carrying members of the Modipane Eloyi Church collided with another, which had on board members of an unnamed church from South Africa, headed to Zimbabwe.

The Eloyi minibus had 11 people while the other had 10 churchgoers.

Four commuters of the Eloyi combi including the driver, a middle-aged man, two middle-aged women and a two-year-old infant died on the spot.

The other woman from the same combi passed on the following day at Nyangabgwe hospital.

Another woman, from the South African congregation minibus, died in an ambulance en route to the hospital.

Maunatlala station commander assistant superintendent Mopedi Moipolai confirmed the accident.

He said apart from the one causality in the combi that was travelling from South African, only the driver is nursing a broken thigh at Mahalapye District Hospital while all other passengers we treated with minor injuries and discharged.

He said a huge impact was on the Eloyi combi hence all the surviving members are still hospitalised.

“Two members are still in critical conditions at Nyangabgwe hospital, others are also admitted in the wards at the same hospital, while others are being treated for different fractures in Mahalapye Hospital.”

Moipolai said the investigations are continuing to establish the cause of the accident and the deceased persons are undergoing postmortem.
