Commander Khama decorates BDF

Three senior officers, Brigadier Nelson Mokgabo Modiko, Colonel Sizinzo Nqxonde Lukashe and Colonel Ezekiel Kedule Mosweu received the Duty Code Order (DCO) medal. This medal is awarded to members of the administrative and technical staff of the BDF for their devotion to duty.

In addition, 78 officers received the Distinguished Service Medal (DSM), which is awarded to commissioned officers who have completed not less than 20 years of continuous service with good conduct. Eight of the award recipients have already retired from the BDF, while seven of them are studying abroad. A further 428 Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) will receive the Long Service Order (LSO) medal during the BDF day celebrations slated for April 24.

The president, who is also the commander-in chief of the army awards the medals just before the BDF Day Celebrations every year. Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Dikgakgamatso Seretse, and the BDF Commander, Lieutenant General Tebogo Masire, accompanied President Khama at the award ceremony.

Meanwhile, Gaborone will once again this year miss the celebrations of the BDF Day due to the unavailability of the National Stadium, which is still undergoing renovations. The celebrations will be held in Francistown and Selebi Phikwe.
