Molepolole North has been a stronghold of the BDP but the opposition especially Botswana National Front (BNF) became very strong with time as their numbers were increasing each year of elections.

According to a source, the BDP wants a strong and credible candidate who could win the area back to the party.

“The members are campaigning silently because the party has not yet allowed campaigns. The two names are mentioned most of the times. May be the number will increase with time because the primaries are in October. After the July congress things will become very clear,” the source said.

He said the BDP members are divided on the candidates, as some believe that Matlhabaphiri still stands a chance while others believe that he has done his part. The source said the party has revived structures in the constituency to ensure that the party is still visible.

Another source said what is likely to cost the party is the division caused by some party leaders for the central committee positions.

“Our constituency is divided as some want Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi while others are for Nonofo Molefhi. For the BDP to win this constituency back, we need to compromise on the name of a candidate that we want. The primaries could divide us even more,” the source said.

For his part Matlhabaphiri said: “I cannot say anything on whether I will contest or not. I will have to wait for the party time-table. Of course some people have been talking to me that I should contest. The party has not yet announced that anyone should campaign”.

However Regoeng said: “I have not yet made up my mind on the matter. Some people have approached me. I will make it public when I have decided on the matter”.

Regoeng is a businessman and also a Board member of Local Enterprise Authority  and the Kweneng district venture.
