Volleyball calls congress to discuss sponsorship

The April 13 congress will specifically focus on the league sponsorship, which has eluded BVF for more than two seasons.
BVF has failed to replace Mascom, after the telecommunications company’s deal expired at the end of the 2016 season.
The invitation for the congress has been extended to club chairpersons and secretary-generals. “The main item on the agenda is the position of the BVF regarding the league. Clubs would be updated on the progress made thus far regarding negotiations with potential sponsors,” a source said. BVF public relations officer, Kagiso Meswele said talks with a potential league sponsor are at an advanced level.
“We had promising talks before the Easter holidays break. We had expected an agreement to be signed this week but it seems the sponsor is not back yet (from the holidays). We are hopeful that anytime now, we would be getting the much needed sponsorship,” an optimistic Meswele said.
Meswele said BVF does not control when a sponsor should sign. He said they are worried about the time factor because they had thought the league would be running in April. Mafolofolo coach, Kabo Ntshinogang said the special congress is important as they want answers regarding the current situation.
“We do not want anything else but league sponsorship. By now we should be playing ball. Other issues would follow at a later stage,” he said.
Ntshinogang said if by next week, the agreement has been reached between BVF and a sponsor, teams should be given time to prepare for the competition.
Kutlwano coach, Isaac Samuel said he could only state his position after the special congress.
Meanwhile, Meswele said they have kick-started talks with JB Sports regarding the sponsorship of a new tournament.
“JB Sports tournament is for top eight teams but we are also looking into finding another partner to sponsor a bigger tournament which would include more teams,” he said.
