However, there was disappointment for Karabo Sibanda who could only finish fourth.

Makwala qualified for the final with the fastest time of 45:00 while Thebe clocked 45.54. Makwala had an easy route to the finish line as none of the competitors put him under pressure. The former Africa champion jogged home, reserving his energy for the finals.

As for Thebe, it was a nervous race as he stepped into the track with a heavily strapped thigh, with fears he might struggle. He however, managed to finish second and book his place in the finals.

It was a disappointing semi-final for Sibanda who finished forth in a time of 46.26.

Sibanda did not have a good run as he gave up just a few meters from the finishing line.  The men’s 400m final is tomorrow at 1:47pm.
