Child molester denied bail

The State alleges that Onkemetse Bagoreng, 24, forcefully had sexual intercourse with the minor near Woodhall 1 ward in Lobatse without her consent on May 3, 2017.

The offence is alleged to have been committed with violence.  The accused was arrested on Monday at an abandoned house in Lobatse, five days after the incident.

The prosecutor, sub-inspector Bakani Tsayang of Woodhall police station said the victim is still hospitalised under critical condition, hence he pleaded with the Court to reserve the plea.

“The accused person was arrested yesterday (Monday) and the incident took place on May 3.

The victim is in a critical condition at Princess Marina Hospital.

We are still monitoring her recovery from the injuries therefore we plead with the Court to reserve the plea,” he said.

Tsayang further said the accused person is not a bail candidate since investigations have just commenced. “Investigations into this case have just commenced and they are still at infant stage.

If released on bail, the accused is likely to interfere with investigations and we need to be certain with the victim’s health status first,” he said.

The accused person was brief: “I don’t have a problem with that (staying in prison).

I just want the Court to assist me to reach my workplace where I want to collect my money so that I buy toiletry.

I was employed there but my job ended recently.

I don’t have contact numbers of my employers neither of relatives, hence I plead with the Court to order police to take me there,” he said.
