BDP serves primaries' losers with letters

Mmegi has established that the concerned members received their responses late Monday this week. In addition, this publication has also learnt that letters were written prior to inauguration of President Mokgweetsi Masisi on April 1 but it is unclear as to why they were not delivered on time.
“ It is true that those who protested the elections have received their response letters. I am however, not privy to the contents of the letters,” said Baemedi Medupi, the party’s Francistown region chairperson.
The reply from the party came two days after members in the constituency-expressed displeasure with the party’s decision (During their meeting with the party deputy secretary general (DSG) Shaw Kgathi) to declare those who won the primaries as final candidates for the next year general elections.
The announcement by Kgathi was made despite the fact that the party had not communicated anything about the outcomes of the protests for the primaries.
Over the weekend, Kgathi had visited the constituency in order to officially unveil candidates for the next year general elections, who were entirely made up of those who won the BDP January primaries.
The DSG’s visit was also meant to give permission to the party’s January primary election winners to start campaigns for the 2019 polls.
The meeting was however, called off because Kgathi was told that it is not logical for him to unveil candidates before the party could deliberate on the protests launched by those who lost at the disputed primaries.
It remains to be seen as to what steps will be taken by those who protested the primaries. Majority is said to be deeply unhappy with the manner in which the party handled the protests. They are reportedly of the view that they were denied the right to be heard.
