New promotions company launched in Ghetto

Itekeng ward councillor, Lesego Kwambala and businessman Carlos Sebina are co-directors of the company. According to Sebina the promotions company’s aim is to re-kindle the city’s fading entertainment industry.

Sebina was speaking on Friday at a press conference organised to launch the company.

The company organised the recently held Kwambala Music festival, which featured South African traditional soul artist Johny Mokhali.

He said from the festival they have identified shortfalls with regards to how some artists handle their business such as branding, among others. He said Special Guru will try to break the anomaly (poor handling of affairs by artists) through organising workshops.

“The city’s entertainment industry has great potential which we believe has not been fully exploited. If the opportunities can be fully exploited they can help improve the economy of the city,” he said.

He added that as part of improving the vibrancy of the city, the company intends to organise a high profile four-team football tournament in the city before the end of the year.

“Negotiations are underway with potential sponsors and we will be revealing them (sponsors) soon.”

Renowned Mpaxanga artist Thapelo ‘Mc Maswe’ Maleka welcomed the new company. “We appreciate the first promotions company in Francistown. We remain overly optimistic that the company will contribute to the growth of the music industry in the north. We have been ripped off by many local promoters and our fingers are crossed that this company will be more transparent and ethical in its dealings.”

One of the country’s leading Kwasa-Kwasa artists, Geoffrey Matheatau said having worked with the new promoters in their first festival he appreciates the way they handled their affairs.

“We have overtime experienced challenges with different promoters in the past that I cannot mention but I am hopeful the company will stick to the way they initially worked with me and hopefully with all other artists,” Matheatau said.
