The company handed out P400,000 in cash while the P100,000 is in kind, in the form of communication support to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) towards the event.

Mascom chief operations officer, Zene Makhwade-Seboni said the sponsorship in kind includes communication devices amongst others, and they also assisted during the World Cup qualifiers held in Gaborone last year.

She said Botswana Netball Association (BONA) should be commended for raising the profile of the country to be counted amongst countries that can host such an event.

“We are proud to be part of the event. We are active with the support of sport and we sponsor an array of sporting codes,” she said.

For her part, the LOC chairperson, Prisca Mokgadi said from the beginning they knew they could count on Mascom because it is one of the leading sponsors of sport in the country.

She said the event is for young women who form the majority of Mascom’s clientele.

Mokgadi invited other stakeholders to emulate Mascom and become part of the historical event.

Meanwhile, assistant Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture Development, Kefentse Mzwinila said with 59 days left before the World Cup, everybody should be aware that the country is about to make history.

He said his ministry appreciates all the help from companies such as Mascom and individuals who want to assist in the mandate of ensuring a successful Netball World Cup.

“The ministry cannot thank the sponsors enough because without their support, we might disappoint the many netball lovers who are looking forward to these games. And we certainly do not want to do that,” he said.

Mzwinila promised Mascom that at the end of the event, the funds would be accounted for in order to continue building the trust and great working relations that the company enjoys with other sporting codes.
