Jealous boyfriend kills lover, hangs himself

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer- in-charge at Palapye police station assistant superintendent Kebonye Kodumane confirmed the killing and suicide.

He said the couple was engaged in an argument on Sunday evening when the girl allegedly wanted to leave for the bars without the boyfriend’s approval. 

He said in the middle of the argument the man reportedly chased the girlfriend to the neighbour’s house, where she pleaded for help from their elderly neighbour.

Kodumane said the old man chided the couple and instructed them to come in the morning so he can hear their differences and assist them further.

The couple heard the old man and in harmony returned to their rented home. Upon returning the argument allegedly resurrected and the man reportedly stabbed his lover to death in front of their children with a sharp object suspected to be a knife.

Immediately after allegedly killing the woman the man escaped into thin air and was discovered hanging on a tree in the bushes of Extension One after a manhunt on Monday around 11am.

Both corpses were taken to the morgue for post-mortem. The woman, also middle-aged is from Shakwe while the man is from Malaka.

“These are problems that the nation face, a lot has been said about these issues, prayers have been held regarding killings of this nature but the youth still turn a deaf ear, cohabitation is a problem and we can only hope our youth take a leaf from of all this,” worried Kodumane said.
