DPP director, Abraham Keetshabe confirmed that the renowned state lawyer moved swiftly to quit her job, following media reports of her being found in possession of a firearm.

Sources told this publication that the gun was found in her office on April 17, 2017 after a tip-off from some police officers.  It is said upon searching her office, the gun was recovered along with dagga.

It is alleged that Ramokwena had bought the gun on the streets of Francistown and was to smuggle it to her boyfriend at the Gaborone Central Prison to aid his escape.

It is alleged that communication from mobile phone operators between her and the incarcerated lover helped the police make the arrest. “She has since written a letter of resignation a few days after the incident.

We accept her resignation.  Prior to her letter, we had already interdicted her from performance of her job because she was being investigated by the police for a serious offence,” Keetshabe said.

Meanwhile, the police spokesperson said investigations into the matter are still ongoing. “We will only know how to advance after completion of our investigations,” he said.

Ramokwena has over the years represented the state in high profile criminal cases including that of Thabo Masilo, who allegedly killed a Form Five school leaver, Tshephang Motlhabane in Phase 4 in 2014.

Ramokwena also represented the state in a matter in which journalist and Office of the President employee, Abueng Sebola were charged with receiving stolen property and stealing by servant respectively.

She also represented the state in dozens of cases including those of armed robbery.
