The federation’s deputy secretary Ketlhalefile Motshegwa said that the congress resolved that BOFEPUSU participate in and influence the political economy through engaging political parties and civic groups aligned to the workers agenda.

He said that the congress endorsed the decision of the national leadership to terminate the membership of BOFEPUSU A.J.A at the Public Service Bargaining Council (PSBC) to pave way for the affiliates membership to benefit from three and four percent salary increments for the 2016/17 and 2017/18 respectively.

Furthermore, the congress resolved that the federation should litigate in the case that government does not accord BOFEPUSU affiliates members the three and four percent on account of that being discriminatory and lacking parity.

Also, he said, the federation would intensify its mobilisation programme through demonstrations and link with some community groupings. The federation has already released the calendar of demonstrations, which commences on May 16, 2017 in Francistown and ends in Bobonong on June 5.

Meanwhile, BOFEPUSU has reported Botswana to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for contravening and violation of Convention 98, which provide right to organise and collective bargaining following the collapse of the Bargaining council.

In the letter written to the ILO and copied to SADC, the African Union and embassies in Botswana, the federation also want Botswana removed from the governing body of ILO as is not exemplary to others when it comes to upholding ILO standards.

In the letter, BOFEPUSU states that Botswana has regressed even below troubled countries such as Swaziland.
